Matt Reeves To Direct ‘The Batman’!!!

Warner Bros. has reportedly found their man to helm the next solo Batman film.

Matt Reeves is rumored to be in early negotiations to take over directing duties of ‘The Batman’ from Ben Affleck after Affleck stepped down from the position earlier this year.

Variety is reporting that their sources have told them Reeves has already committed to the project but the deal hasn’t been officially signed yet. Variety was also the first to report that the ‘Cloverfield’ director was high on a shortlist of directors they had in mind once Affleck decided not to direct but meetings with other film makers were still ongoing until recently.

This particular situation is not strange to Matt Reeves though. Reeves actually has replaced a director before as he did by stepping into the ‘Planet Of The Apes’ rebooted franchise when he took over ‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ from Rupert Wyatt after Wyatt had successfully brought the franchise back to prominence with 2011’s ‘Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes’. Even with that pressure on his back Reeves’ installment in the Apes series was just as critically acclaimed and financially successful as Wyatt’s installment. Which bodes well for Warner Bros.

If the deal officially goes through Ben Affleck will still have a huge role in the film. This will be the first standalone Batman film for Affleck who besides portraying the caped crusader, has co-written the script with DC head honcho Geoff Johns and also will be a producer on the movie as well. The step down from directing will give Affleck more time to focus on his portrayal of Bruce Wayne/Batman who he feels warrants such focus because of how iconic a character he is.

With the director questions seemingly out of the way, the attention now turns to when will ‘The Batman’ start production? Reeves is currently in post production on ‘War For The Planet Of The Apes’ which is scheduled for a July release this year but should be freed up to begin his prep work for ‘The Batman’ right after. Filming was supposed to start in May but after Affleck stepping down as director and coming off a very busy 2016 that included shooting and publicity tours for ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice’, ‘The Accountant’ and his passion project ‘Live By Night’, taking a break and pushing back the start date is more than understandable, especially since there will be more publicity coming this year for the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie. That being said, seeing as how fast Warner Bros. and company has hired a new director would lead one to believe that production will be starting sooner rather than later.

While this will be Matt Reeves’ first foray into the comic book world, his past films have included dealing with monsters the size of skyscrapers, super intelligent-human like apes and even vampires (‘Let Me In’), so I think he is well equipped to take on ‘The Dark Knight’ and make a fantastic movie.

Warner Bros. Blinks First!!! Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice Gets New Release Date!!! Also Announces Release Dates For 9 Future DC Films!!!

batman-v-superman In a game of chicken that Warner Bros. initiated with Marvel, The DC Comics owner blinked first. After initially changing their scheduled release date of Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice to go head to head with Marvel’s future Captain America 3 movie, and professing they would not budge, Warner Bros. has indeed budged, blinked, chickened out, and whatever other metaphor for retreating you can come up with, and announced that they are changing the release date for the upcoming superhero blockbuster. But the good news is that the movie will be pushed up and not delayed. Batman & Superman fans will now get to see the two comic book goliaths go at it on March 25, 2016. A surprisingly early release for a movie that has Summer Blockbuster written all over it.

Personally, I think Batman v Superman would have won the Box Office battle against Cap 3 because even though the Captain America films and pretty much everything Marvel has put out these last few years have been really good, it’s Batman & Superman on the big screen together for the first time ever!!! And I think everyone that’s even remotely a comic book and superhero fan wants to see that. It also looks like we will be seeing a lot more of the heroes and villains from the DC Nation, as according to Box Office Mojo, Warner Bros. has also announced release dates for nine more untitled future DC Films and two untitled WB “Event” films. Speculations are that some of the untitled DC Films will be the already confirmed Justice League movie and it’s potential sequels, a solo Wonder Woman movie, a Sandman movie involving Joseph Gordon-Levitt, and a Shazam/Black Adam movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Early thoughts are the two WB “Event” films will be the sequels to the Harry Potter spinoff movie ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ which is scheduled for Nov. 18, 2016.

So what do you think of the new release date for Batman v Superman?   Do you think Warner Bros. showed weakness by backing out? Should they have kept the box office battle with Marvel going? And what are your thoughts on the heavy stable of DC films that are rumored to come? What movies and characters would you like to see in these future movies?

Feel free to join the discussion and give your thoughts and opinions!!!

First Look At Superman In Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice, Reveals New Suit!!!

Superman Dawn Of Justice 2The first official image of Henry Cavil as Superman in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice has been released and it is AMAZING!!! Cavill has really beefed up to the point he looks even bigger now than he did in Man Of Steel. Superman looks like a complete BEAST!!! Which in combination with the way Ben Affleck has beefed up for his role as Batman has me even more excited for this upcoming superhero smash. In the new picture you can also see some very subtle but noticeable changes to the suit that i think really makes it look new and even better than the Man Of Steel suit. The first thing I noticed was the change in the belt. It’s a rectangular shape now as opposed to the circular one and the color has changed to more of blue/white color. The design around Superman’s wrist and torso area are a bit different and the famous iconic “S” symbol looks slightly different on the suit, perhaps it’s a bit more raised on the chest and the color is slightly altered. All of these changes are subtle but all together they make the suit look so much cooler and better overall. Personally, I’m ecstatic about the new image of Superman and coming off the reveal of Affleck in the Batman suit and how amazing that looked, I’m totally excited for the Batman v Superman movie. In an interview with USA Today, who released the image, director Zack Snyder said “Cavill is definitely more comfortable in the role the second time around…The more time I spend with Henry, the more he’s Superman to me.” And it shows, Cavill looks like a stronger, more confident Supes in the new image. Which can only mean great things for the Man Of Steel on the big screen. Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is scheduled to be released on May 6, 2016.

First Tease At New Batmobile For Man Of Steel 2 AKA Batman VS Superman!!!

First Tease Of New Batmobile For Man Of Steel 2 AKA Batman VS Superman!!!

Man Of Steel Director, Zack Snyder has tweeted a teaser image of the new Batmobile for his upcoming Man Of Steel sequel which is tentatively being called Man Of Steel 2 and/or Batman VS Superman. As we all know by now, Ben Affleck is set to portray the caped crusader in this film and everyone and their mama has been chomping at the bit for any information or footage or pictures of anything to do with this movie. Snyder himself provided the masses with that as he has tweeted an image of the new Batmobile albeit Batman’s ride is conveniently covered by a large black tarp only revealing the back wheels and something resembling bat wings on the top, similar to the Batmobile from the Tim Burton directed movies. Don’t fret yet Batfans, cause Mr. Snyder said in the tweet, “Could be time to pull the tarp…Tomorrow?” So we may just get the full reveal and look of the Batman’s ride, this time tomorrow.

The Rock To Be The New Green Lantern In Batman Vs Superman/Man Of Steel 2?!!!

The Rock To Be The New Green Lantern In Batman Vs Superman/Man Of Steel 2?!!!

There is now speculation that Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson will be Green Lantern, John Stewart in the sequel to last summer’s smash movie “Man Of Steel”. The action star had an interesting Instagram photo a while ago that caught quite a few people’s eyes and is gaining attention again now due to the latest rumblings surrounding Warner Bros. and their DC Universe projects. The hashtag to the photo read, “#JohnStewartCanStillWhupSupermansAss” (which he totally can’t by the way), hence the speculation. Just in the last couple of weeks, rumors were rampant that Johnson would be cast as Superman nemesis Darkseid, who is a villain so powerful it surely would be the catalyst to bring about the creation of the Justice League. The justice League eventually forming has been pretty much considered a given with the casting announcements that have been made for the Batman/Superman film. The question is will we see the true beginnings of it in Man Of Steel 2 or will the Justice League movie be filmed back to back with the Batman/Superman/MOS2 film and that’s when we see The League formed? What do you think? Would you rather see The Rock as Green Lantern John Stewart or as Darkseid? Jesse Eisenberg Cast As Lex Luthor In Batman Vs Superman/Man Of Steel 2 Movie!!! Jeremy Irons Also Cast As Alfred Pennyworth!!!

Jesse Eisenberg Cast As Lex Luthor In Batman Vs Superman/Man Of Steel 2 Movie!!! Jeremy Irons Also Cast As Alfred Pennyworth!!!

Warner Bros. Pictures made a huge and shocking annoncement today as they have officially announced the casting of Academy Award nominated actor (The Social Network) Jesse Eisenberg as Superman’s arch-nemesis Lex Luthor and Academy Award winning actor  (Reversal Of Fortune) Jeremy Irons as Alfred Pennyworth, the world famous butler, mentor and father figure to Bruce Wayne AKA Batman, who of course will be played by Ben Affleck. Responses are already heated about the casting of Eisenberg , who most believe isn’t the right fit to portray the vicious, dark, power obsessed maniac that is Lex Luthor. Meanwhile Jeremy Irons’ casting as trusty butler Alfred has been more well received as he is an established talented actor with a proven ability to have a strong range. The sequel to last year’s blockbuster Man Of Steel has had it’s fair share of criticism with many fans not approving of the casting of several of the roles including a large backlash when Affleck was initially announced as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Gal Gadot’s hiring to be DC Comics Superheroine Wonder Woman (who will at least make a cameo in the Batman Vs Superman film) was also met with dislike We can only wait and see how this will all turn out. And that wait will be a bit longer than originally anticipated as Man Of Steel 2/Batman Vs Superman has been pushed back from July 17, 2015 to May 6, 2016.

This past week Ben Affleck joined “Late Night WIth Jimmy Fallon” to promote his new film “Runner Runner’. During the conversation, Jimmy brought up the news that everyone and they mama knows by now, which is, Mr. Affleck being the new Batman in the upcoming Man Of Steel sequel which will have Superman and Batman on the big screen together for the first time ever. Affleck mentions how he was warned how he would be vilified by the fans and how he thought he could handle it. It’s a very entertaining segment. Check it out!!! (Video Courtesy Of NBC)

How Bale Back As Batman Can Be Done.

Image

If you thought you’ve seen the last of Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman on the big screen, maybe you should hold on for a second. There have been rumors that Bale is in talks to reprise his role as The Dark Knight in a 4th film. Here’s where things get a little more interesting. The obvious thinking and rumor that’s getting the most buzz is that Bale would appear in a Justice League movie along with “Man Of Steel” star Henry Cavill, but there are some people that feel a Justice League movie would not be the best way to expand the DC Universe on film. DC & Warner Bros. is obviously looking at the success of  The Avengers and would like to achieve that same success with their own team of superheroes. But Warner Bros. and DC haven’t been able to succeed where Marvel has. And that’s establishing solo, tent-pole/franchise movies for their characters leading up to a team up film. Packing everyone into a Justice League movie with no true introductions to the individual characters may not go well. Which is why the alternative option of doing a Batman/Superman “World’s Finest” movie would be the best way to go in my opinion. You would have the beginning of these worlds colliding and you can have cameos by certain characters that will have their own film and be involved in the Justice League. I would love to see a Justice League movie eventually, but I think a Batman/Superman movie would be the best way to go, first. Besides, that’s more movies with Batman and Superman and who wouldn’t want that?  There is however the issue of  continuity within the DC Universe when it comes to Batman or at least with Christian Bale as Batman. (Spoiler Alert!!! For the 3 people that didn’t see The Dark Knight Rises) When we last saw Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman he had faked his death after saving Gotham City from Bane, Talia Al Ghul and a nuclear bomb. He passed the mantle on to brave young cop turned detective John Blake and lived happily ever after with Selina Kyle (played tremendously by Anne Hathaway.) So if  Bale were to come back as Batman there would have to be some reason/explanation that he would return to the cape and the cowl instead of letting John Blake take care of things. This is where I step in and give my two cents on what could be done to make this legitimate on the big screen.

John Blake Must Die!!! –  A little dramatic? Maybe, maybe not. I think for Bruce Wayne to come back to Gotham City and become the bat again, something very big has to happen. I loved The Dark Knight Rises but there are some things that could be considered questionable with it’s it ending which I think would lead to the perfect opening for Bruce’s return. Bruce has always said Batman can be anyone, a hero can be anyone. In theory he’s correct, but John Blake wasn’t trained by The League Of Shadows and he wasn’t really portrayed as a great fighter in TDKR.  At the end of “The Dark Knight Rises” I wondered, did Bruce leave him a series of Taebo-like tapes instructing him how to defend himself and fight? Why should we expect John Blake to be good enough to handle the daily grind of being the caped crusader?  I think the perfect way to bring Bruce back to Gotham is to have John Blake killed in action as Batman, leaving the city unprotected and Bruce Wayne feeling extreme guilt for passing on the legacy to someone who just wasn’t ready for it. As Gotham City is in chaos Bruce comes to the realization that he and no one else is Batman and no matter what he does, he always will be. I think that could lead to numerous possibilities to make a great story. Does Alfred blindly support Bruce in his efforts to come back or does he try to talk him out of becoming the Batman once again? Does Selina Kyle support his decision or has she grown accustomed to her fresh start in life and tells Bruce it’s either her or Gotham?  I think they could do some great things with that.

John Blake/Azreal??? –  Another direction they could go in, is having John Blake letting the power of being Batman consume and take over him, becoming more aggressive and violent against criminals.  I think they could take some aspects from the character Azreal from the “Knightfall” story arc that would fit in very well if they went in this direction. Blake could seal off the batcave from the rest of the Wayne property and abstain from working with Commissioner Gordon and the GCPD.  I don’t think this would be far-fetched. As you guys may recall, Deputy Commissioner Peter Foley always called John Blake a hothead and that side of him was shown a couple of times in TDKR. So maybe, when word of John Blake’s reckless behavior gets to Bruce (possibly via Lucius Fox) he’s forced to come out of retirement and deal with his protege himself, pitting one Batman against the other. The teacher vs the student. How sick would it be to have two Batmans in one movie?!! Two real Batmans not that hockey pad wearing guy from “The Dark Knight.” Personally I would love to see it!!! What do you guys think of the scenarios I have proposed? Would you like to see Christian Bale return as The Dark Knight?
